If you’re just catching up with us, please check out Part 1 of our James Bond Island Series.

Meanwhile, after leaving the famous James Bond Island, our long tail boat wandered over through Phang Nga Bay, and we docked at a big boat that offered Sea Canoe trips. This was not included in the price of our tour, but for the small price (and kids were free), we decided it was worth the extra money. The price escapes me, but I think it was perhaps 400 baht ($12) per adult.

Anyhow—we jumped into inflatable canoes and a guide did all of the paddling for us. This left us to simply enjoy the scenery and talk with the kids!  Jared took one canoe with two kids, and I took another with Maiya.

The tide was low, which allowed us to enter many inner rooms with low hanging entries that are otherwise inaccessible at high tide. We were often instructed to lay down or duck so we could get in some of the entry ways!  The caverns were beautiful, and just overall—fun!

The guide of my boat took us into a corner of Mangrove trees so we could see them up close! I’ve always wanted to see mangroves…what a wild thing!

It was quite hot in the sun, so we were relieved at the few opportunities to be in the shade or passing under the caverns.

Our guide called this guy the “supermarket”…there he was, trying to sell coconuts off his boat as the canoes went by!

As we started heading back, Jared’s canoe guide blatantly requested a tip (which we had planned to give), and Jared offered him 100 baht ($3). “More!” requested the guide. So, Jared gave each of our guides a very handsome tip of $6 USD each. Wowzers.

Sorry to further encourage his tip-requests…but he did do all the work, and what’s an extra $6 to us?.

Anyhow—if the tide is right, I would definitely recommend hitting up the sea canoes. The kids loved it, and so did we!
