Tapalpa is 1 of the designated 36 “Magic” towns in Mexico, and is a small alpine mountain town Southwest of Lake Chapala and Guadalajara.
It rightly deserves this title, and were thrilled to make an overnight trek with some good friends up to this sweet mountain village! Like any Mexican village, a chapel and plaza mark the center of town and most activity.

I’ve never learned if it is appropriate to take photos in some of the various Catholic Chapels throughout Mexico. I figure if I am not disturbing anyone’s worship, it is pretty cool to keep a record of the varying styles. For some reason there was a Sunflower theme going on in town, and we saw Sunflower banners throughout town.
Ella with one of the friends that came with us! Can this picture be any more beautiful?!
I really enjoyed the style of the town. I felt like I was in a little Bavarian Village.
- One thing that always surprises me is the detail the Mexican people put into simple things. For example, this sidewalk wasn’t just poured concrete…they had made little cobblestone designs among the concrete. I stopped and thought, “was it worth it?”, and then I realized “Yes, it was”. Heck, here I am…blogging about it!
