In Fall 2012 we spent quite a bit of time in Southwestern Germany visiting my husband’s Aunt and Uncle that live near Kaiserslautern. Fortunately, this is also very close to the French border, and specifically, the Alsace region. It is a gorgeous region known for its vineyards and wine production. We don’t drink…but we love admiring vineyards!

We started our day exploring some beautiful cities in the Alsace Region by going to Ribeauville, France.

Ribeauvillé has 3 nearby castles perched on the hillsides outside of town.

I love the understated details on the old half-timber buildings:

And I find myself taking endless photos of their projecting signs…

This was us through most of Europe: Two kids sharing a single stroller. We didn’t bring a stroller to Europe since Ethan was then 2 and didn’t want to be pushed anymore. However, we discovered that 5 year old Maiya simply couldn’t be bothered to walk…therefore, we picked up a new stroller for our 3 months in Europe. Turns out, those two generally shared it.

Ella enjoyed snapping photos wherever she went…

It was a beautiful town…but only one of four that we enjoyed.

Next up, we were headed to Riquewihr, but not before driving through Hunawihr and admiring some pretty views.

Next up…Riquewihr and Colmar!

Wow! Gorgeous. My aunt was telling my how beautiful this area was, that’s what led me to look into moving there, and then eventually deciding to move to the Kaiserslautern area (because they have an English ward there)! We leave in 10 days.

I’m certain you will love it. Kaiserslautern is a great area with quick access to so many wonderful places in Germany, France, Switzerland, and even Austria if you’re up for a drive!! 🙂
